Background
When
I was piecing together a range of applications for the Sensitive Awareness
Method I was handed a sealed A4 manilla envelope filled with
paperwork. My colleague was curious to know if I could use my skills to
help with answering a question related to the papers in the envelope.
I
had no idea what was on the papers in the envelope so simply began my
process and started to write down insights as they came to me. After I
had finished writing, my colleague gave me feedback on what I had told
him.
It
seemed that my insight related directly to a business proposal that was
contained within the envelope. My information made my colleague more cautious
about the proposal and confirmed the need for more close research. One
part of the information I gave him however seemed obscure and we both
wondered how it fitted into the question being asked.
Some
time later after more careful work my colleague told me that the second
bit of information actually seemed to fit with his worst suspicions about
the proposal and made sense. I was curious to find out after this if indeed
these skills were useful to the less sympathetic business client who wants
solutions and looks to objective facts for guidance.
What
I do now
I
have used these skills many times within a business context and received
good feedback on the insight and guidance I have been able to give. However
the information I give is not in and of itself the whole story. Any business
should subject advice and opinion to close scrutiny to make sure it is
logical and works within the business plan.
Confidentiality
is paramount and any information and insight that I explore with my clients
remains confidential.
The
Session
I
sit with my clients for about an hour. Within this time I usually
go quiet for a short period and begin to write, draw and talk about my
perceptions and insights. Sometimes the information is quite symbolic
and metaphoric and takes a bit of discussion to understand. Other times
it is quite literal and direct and therefore obvious what the information
means. In either event I use a large part of the hour to discuss the information
with my client to find out how it fits within the business question being
asked.
I
do not ask for any information about the business before I begin the session.
this may seem unusual but I rely on gaining insight in a way that
needs me to know as little as possible about what is being asked in order
for my insights to be kept clean and clear of unnecessary influence.
A
written report can be made after the session and either posted or emailed
to the client.
Venue
I
arrange a convenient time and location for us to meet either at the clients
business premises or at a suitable venue for both parties. If there is
travelling to be done then I may ask for some of the expenses to be met.
If agreed, then I ask for feedback at a later date that I can use as a
testimonial for my work. The testimonial is kept anonymous unless otherwise
agreed.

To Book
